UNC Charlotte has hired AlliedBarton Security Services to augment the university's police and public-safety department.
Under the agreement, Pennsylvania-based AlliedBarton will provide UNC Charlotte with four security officers to monitor and patrol campus areas between 6 p.m. and 3 a.m. each day.
AlliedBarton personnel will conduct escorts, secure and open buildings, patrol parking lots and decks, and report safety hazards and crimes in progress.
Financial terms weren't disclosed.
UNC Charlotte is the fourth-largest campus among the 17 institutions of the UNC System. It is the largest institution of higher education in the Charlotte region. The university offers 18 doctoral programs, 61 master's degree programs and 89 programs leading to bachelor's degrees. Fall 2007 enrollment exceeded 22,300 students, including 4,800 graduate students.



Round Lake
• Shante N. Laprade, 19, 2372 N. Silver Oaks Drive, Round Lake Beach, was arrested around 11:20 a.m. March 7 and charged with battery. Laprade is accused of pushing a security officer at Round Lake High School, 800 High School Drive, police said. A Waukegan court date was set for March 28.



.Cambridge MA. - Hotel security guard assaulted: A security guard at the Charles Hotel in Harvard Square told police he was assaulted by an alleged drunk last Tuesday. According to police reports, the 45-year-old guard was making his rounds around 10:50 p.m., March 11 when an unidentified white male approached him in the hallway. The victim told police the man tried to spit on him, but missed. The guard was able to spin around the unnamed assailant, gain control of him and escort him out of the building, police said. It was unknown if the man was a guest of the hotel. He is described as being approximately 5-foot-9, in his late 30s wearing blue jeans, sneakers and a black backpack.

JUNEAU WI- Charges are pending against a former Milwaukee man accused of impersonating a police officer in the city of Juneau. According to police records, the 21-year-old Juneau man was seen using a maroon Ford Crown Victoria equipped with a red, flashing light to conduct traffic stops.In addition, the man is also accused of wearing a security guard badge to identify himself as a law enforcement figure, according to the report.
