Driver sent to prison for accident that killed VA. officer www.privateofficer.com


VIRGINIA BEACH VA. March 23 2008 - A man was convicted of reckless driving yesterday and sentenced to a year in prison for his role in an accident that killed a Virginia Beach police officer last fall.


A General District Court judge found Shawn Mowbray, a 29-year-old Virginia Beach resident, guilty of reckless driving and sentenced to one year in jail with 60 days suspended.

In addition, Mowbray's driver's license was revoked for six months.

Mowbray was involved in an Oct. 10 crash that killed Randall Vaiden, a 30-year-old school resource officer at Green Run High School.
According to the police report, Mowbray was driving east on Holland Road he tried to make a left turn onto Diana Lee Lane.

He turned directly into the path of Vaiden's sport utility vehicle, causing the SUV to go out of control and strike a pole.

Vaiden, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
