Violent shoplifting causes school lock-downs www.privateofficer.com

Bradenton Fla. March 22 2008
A robbery of a Brandon department store on Friday afternoon led to the modified lockdowns of three schools six blocks away, authorities said.
Limona Elementary, McLane Middle and Brandon High schools were locked down from 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Hillsborough County schools spokeswoman Linda Cobbe said.

No one was injured, and no one at any of the schools was threatened.

Modified lockdown means outdoor activities are suspended and students who have to go outside to change classes must be in groups or pairs, she said.
The security measure took place when a man walked into the Wal-Mart at 1208 E. Brandon Blvd. around 1:30 p.m., smashed an electronics cases and took eight iPODs collectively valued at $3,898. He carried them out of the store in an empty shoebox, deputies said.
The robber was described as being white and in his 30s. He wore a light-colored T-shirt and blue jeans and drove off in a newer model white, two-door car, possibly a Chevrolet Cobalt, with a spoiler on the back.

Police did not say if any store employee tried to stop the shoplifter or if he made threats to anyone during the robbery.
Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call deputies at (813) 247-8200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477.
