POLICE DOG STABBED www.privateofficer.com

GREENVILLE, S.C. March 22 2008 -- Authorities say a man was shot by police after he stabbed a police dog then threatened officers with the knife.
Greenville County sheriff's spokesman Shea Smith says deputies found 34-year-old purse snatching suspect Jerry Dean Davis sleeping in his car Thursday morning.
Authorities say Davis ran before officers could arrest him, and the police dog started chasing.
Smith says Davis stabbed the dog several times once it caught him, then threatened deputies with the knife.
Officials say Davis was shot at least once, but is expected to survive.
Authorities say the police dog, a 3-year-old German shepherd, underwent surgery and is also expected to survive.
It wasn't immediately clear if Davis has an attorney.
