MANKATO MN. March 19 2008
A LeHillier man who has had many run-ins with police in the past is back in jail after a foot chase involving a car amplifier, a shopping cart and a child Sunday.
Timothy Garth Hansen Jr., 23, is facing possible charges of felony theft and child endangerment for the incident that led River Hills Mall security officers on a chase through the mall and into the Target parking lot.
A witness contacted mall security at about 5:30 p.m. after seeing a man put his arm into a Rockin Ronny’s mall display case, pull out an amplifier and put it into a cart he was pushing through the mall. When security caught up with the man, later identified as Hansen, he allegedly started running with the cart he was pushing.
The cart contained the amplifier and a 5-year-old girl who was with Hansen, security reported.
The chase continued through the mall, into Target and out Target’s parking lot entrance. Once Hansen was in the parking lot, his cart hit a crack in the pavement that sent the amplifier and the girl flying, Mankato police said. At that point security officers detained Hansen until police could arrive.Once police arrived, the child was sent home with another adult.
