Woman plots to kill husband and 2 others www.privateofficer.com

MADISON COUNTY, Ga. – March 21 2008
A North Georgia woman has admitted to a murder plot to kill her husband, her son-in-law and her boyfriend's son.
A judge sentenced Ivy Jean Davis, 67, to five years in prison after she pleaded guilty to five counts of criminal solicitation to commit murder and confessed to providing $200 to an undercover officer she believed to be a hit man. The money was for him to buy an untraceable gun.
She was also ordered to serve 20 years' probation with special conditions and pay a $1,000 fine. The first year of her probation must be served under intensive supervision, the judge ruled.
Davis told Western Circuit District Attorney Ken Mauldin she believed her guilty plea was "the Lord's will."
"I wouldn't hurt nobody," Davis said. "I didn't get a chance to do nothing. I'm a very compassionate person."
Members of the Drug Task Force conducted an investigation into a murder-for-hire scheme last year and said Davis conspired to have three men killed.
Capt. Clarence Holeman of the Criminal Investigations Division said the woman apparently blamed her son-in-law for "turning her daughter against her."
Davis’ 79-year-old husband told Channel 2 he was shocked and hurt to learn that his wife of nearly 47 years apparently wanted to kill him and tried to hire someone to do it.
People usually hire hit men for financial reasons or to get rid of one person in a love triangle, one homicide expert, retired New York City police detective Joe Pollini told the Athens Banner-Herald.
One of the people Davis wanted killed was her boyfriend's son but an official motive never was given for Davis' attempts to have her husband and boyfriend's son killed.
Clarke County police said a tip alerted them to Davis' intentions. An undercover officer met with Davis and she conspired to have the three men killed and it was caught on tape.
Davis' attorney, Thomas A. Camp, argued that a psychiatrist determined she has a disability that prevents her from having rational thinking. A lifetime of alcohol abuse caused Davis to lose the ability to control her impulses, Camp said.
Davis' husband has filed for divorce.
