For most of us, age is something that we don't look forward to and try to avoid looking our age at any cost. But authorities say that for one woman, she wanted to age and age in a hurry so she played dress up and headed out to an area casino to see if her aging worked.
Sheriff department officials say that Kecia Hawarneh, 39, of Sacramento donned a gray wig and bifocals, and carried a cane as she tried to impersonate a 76-year-old woman while trying to open a fraudulent $10,000 account at Thunder Valley Casino near Lincoln.
Lt. Jeffrey Ausnow said Hawarneh had the elderly victim's personal checks and identification cards and tried to pass herself off as the senior citizen to a cashier at 11 p.m. Saturday.
"But the cashier was suspicious," Ausnow said. "She felt the woman appeared to be in some type of disguise. The woman's face looked younger, and it didn't match the ID photo on the driver's license that she was presenting."
Security officers were notified and quickly detained Hawarneh, who protested, saying she was "outraged that an elderly woman was being treated this way," Ausnow said.
When sheriff's deputies were called in, the woman in the disguise abandoned the pretense and told them she hatched the plot to cash the checks after finding the victim's checkbook and identification papers, he said.
Hawarneh was arrested on suspicion of identity theft, forgery and trying to cash a forged check, Ausnow said.
