Shoplifter puts up battle to escape www.privateofficer.com

SKOKIE IL. March 26 2008 - Roshunda Luellen gave it a run to avoid being arrested, but after a long chase, was caught and charged with shoplifting purses.

Skokie police say, Luellen, 35, of 9044 S. Paxton in Chicago, was stopped by a security officer as she ran outside Bloomingdale's at Westfield Old Orchard.

She allegedly was leaving without paying for $576 in purses.

A car pulled up and she tried to get in. When the car pulled away, she took off her coat and dropped her own purse to try to get away from the pursuing guard.

She punched the guard in the shoulder and ran, police said. The security officer saw her go to a nearby gas station, where a driver was pumping gas.

The fleeing woman got into the vehicle and tried to start it. when confronted by the security guard at the gas station, she pulled out an asthma inhaler and threatened to spray the guard. Police said she took off again but the security officer was able to again catch her and detained her until police officers could arrive.

. Luellen faces felony charges of aggravated battery and retail theft, as well as a misdemeanor obstruction of justice charge.
