HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE CA. March 23 2008 Sheriff's deputies, California Highway Patrol (CHP) and Hidden Valley Lake (HVL) security responded to a home in the gated community on the block of Firethorn Road between Sugarbush Ct. and Boxwood Ct. where a stabbing took place early Friday evening. According to early broadcast reports, there were three victims and possibly one fatality.
A male suspect wearing a bright orange t-shirt was taken into custody by the Lake County Sheriff's Department (LCSD) at the scene at approximately 6:30 p.m.
An entire block of Firethorn Road was taped off and four sheriff's vehicles, one CHP vehicle and two HVL security vehicles were at the scene.
Eyewitnesses and neighbors said they were told nothing about what had happened at the residence and had not seen or heard anything other than screaming sirens from at least one ambulance that arrived shortly before 6 p.m.
A security officer confirmed that the entire HVL security staff was called to the scene at that time and at least six Sheriff's deputies including at least two LCSD detectives arrived shortly thereafter.
Deputies were seen discussing the incident near residence numbers 18314 and 16322 Firethorn Road. A suspect appeared somber as he was taken in handcuffs and put into the back of a LCSD vehicle.
Several vehicles were directed around the taped-off area and Sugarbush Ct. at its juncture with Firethorn Road was closed to traffic and taped off.
A small kitchen knife smeared with what appeared to be blood was sighted in the middle of Firethorn Road near Sugarbush Ct. LCSD detectives had circled the weapon in bright orange spray paint. Deputies were seen observing the knife and surrounding area and walking to and from a residence. LCSD Deputy Joe Dutra was at the scene and said he could not release any information or confirm whether a stabbing had taken place. He said to contact the LCSD spokesperson, who was not available for comment at the scene and could not be reached by press time Friday night.
