MILLVILLE NJ. March 26 2008 -- A ShopRite security officer was injured when he allegedly was hit by an SUV driven by a suspected shoplifter March 20.
Kyle Leach, 30, was treated at South Jersey Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Vineland for two severe contusions and severe bruises of the left knee, according to a police report made available Monday.
Ramona D. Roache, 40, of the 1000 block of Dock Street and Rhoda E. Rodriguez of Millville Garden Apartments were charged with shoplifting food items valued at $26.70. Roache also was charged with assault with a motor vehicle.
Leach told police he confronted the suspects in the parking lot and told them to get out of their vehicle.
But Roache allegedly drove forward hitting him in the knee, Leach said.
The security guard jumped on the hood and punched the driver's window twice before Roache came to a stop.
Leach said the suspect drove about 15 feet while he was holding onto the hood with one hand and punching the window with the other.
Police arrived on the scene and took Roache into custody.
