An 11-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the arm in Detroit on Sunday by a stray bullet meant to stop a purse snatcher.
A spokesperson from the Detroit Police Station confirmed that the incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. after a security guard from Hope Evangelical Ministries Church on Livernois witnessed an attempted purse theft. The guard reported that the thief was armed and fired a shot at him, missing the target and striking the boy who was sitting in a car on Livernois, authorities say.The boy was admitted to Children’s Hospital after the incident and has since been released.

Authorities say the boy, who was sitting in a nearby car, was wounded but was expected to survive
The prosecutor will later decide if charges will be pursued against the security guard, authorities say.
