Mall security nabs fraud suspects www.privateofficer.com


HANOVER MA. — March 24 2008
Police are charging two men with using a stolen credit card to buy $800 worth of electronics at the Hanover Mall.
Jose Miguel Tapia Rohena, 30, of Revere and Jonathan Beard, 26, of East Boston were arrested on Wednesday and charged with receiving stolen property after mall security personnel said the men tried to use the card at four stores.
The pair bought a portable media player and a video game system using the card, Police Chief Paul Hayes said.
Police said Rohena gave them a false name and was found to be carrying credit cards and pieces of identification with various names. He also was charged with four counts of forgery, four counts of uttering a false document, conspiracy and larceny by false pretense over $250.
Beard walso was charged with being an accessory before and after the fact, and conspiracy.
Beard was released on bail Wednesday night. Rohena was held overnight at the Plymouth County House of Correction. Both men pleaded innocent at their arraignments on Thursday in Hingham District Court.
