Former postal employee arrested in Identity Theft scam by: Paul Steed www.privateofficer.com

FT. LAUDERDALE FLA. March 22 2008 Federal authorities announced that they have rounded up several people, including a former postal worker, all involved in an identity theft scam.

Federal agents say that that the scheme victimized dozens of South Florida residents.
The former U.S. Post Office employee has been identified as Dondre Green, who police say worked at the North Miami Beach post office, and was fired last year.
The United States Postal Inspector's Office said Green is accused of stealing credit card offers out of the mail, then recruited others to use the cards to go on shopping sprees.
Federal agents, police and the U.S. Postal Inspector's office have been investigating this theft ring for some time and say that said the group reportedly utilized the help of a Target employee to sidestep the company's internal security controls to carry out the scheme.
Records show the group spent more than $100,000 on gift cards, electronics, auto parts and even paid off traffic tickets with the fraudulent credit cards.

Authorities rounded up the seven this week and each of the seven people arrested made an initial appearance in federal court Friday.
If convicted each person faces a lengthy prison term. Federal authorities did not say if there were others involved with this particular incident or if more charges would be forthcoming.
