Culver's Coming to Kennesaw

Culver's, the Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin-based quick serve burger restaurant has plans to open at least one more location in metro Atlanta.  The new restaurant will be located just off Cobb Parkway at 2454 Kennesaw Due West Road in Kennesaw.

The approximately 4,300 square foot Culver's will be situated alongside an existing ServisFirst Bank branch and an upcoming Dunkin' Donuts location. Sources say that a ground-breaking could be held as soon as this fall, with an opening expected during the first half of next year.

The burger chain, with an almost cult-like following, entered the Georgia market last year with a location in Dawsonville just north of the North Georgia Premium Outlets.  In the months since, the chain has added new Georgia locations in Newnan, Buford, Grovetown (just outside Augusta), Lawrenceville and Canton/Hickory Flat.  A sixth location is under construction in McDonough.

Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, also a new entrant in the Atlanta market and competitor of Culver's, opened a new Kennesaw location last year.  The freestanding restaurant opened on the Barrett Parkway side of the new Kennesaw Marketplace development, about three miles from the upcoming Culver's.

Steak & Shake, also a direct competitor of both Freddy's and Culver's, has operated a restaurant on Barrett Parkway close to Costco for a number of years.  While Steak & Shake does have a good location, right in the middle of all the action and just off I-75, 51 of its 86 Yelp.com reviews (roughly 59%) are one star, leaving one to wonder how long they can survive with newer options opening nearby.

For the uninitiated, Culver's is most well known for their frozen custard and signature "ButterBurgers." Culver's menu also includes a variety of sides such as Wisconsin cheese curds, onion rings and coleslaw, as well as assorted salads and soups.  The popular burger eatery operates over 600 locations in twenty-three states.

Sources say that another Culver's is planned for the Johns Creek/Alpharetta area, but while a franchisee has been selected, a location has not yet been finalized.

Are you excited for the addition of another Culver's to metro Atlanta?  If given the choice of Culver's, Freddy's or Steak & Shake, which would you choose?  Where would you like to see Culver's open next?
