Bits & Bites [Atlanta Commercial Real Estate News]

Earlier this week the Omni Hotel at The Battery Atlanta announced that their onsite restaurant will be helmed by celebrity chef Hugh Acheson.  The new restaurant, Achie's, "will provide world-class, Southern-inspired fare" for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  The hotel and restaurant are expected to open early next year.  Acheson's First & Third Hot Dog and Sausage Shack is already open at The Battery and will be joined later this fall by Punch Bowl Social, a bowling and restaurant concept for which Acheson is the "culinary partner."  In addition to these concepts, Acheson operates Empire State South in midtown Atlanta, Spiller Park Coffee at Ponce City Market along with  5 & 10 and The National in Athens.  A second Spiller Park Coffee is expected to open at Toco Hills Shopping Center in the coming weeks, potentially as soon as August 25.

CRÚ Food and Wine Bar plans to open their new location at The Battery "early next week."   This would mark the second Atlanta area location for the concept, the original being at Avalon in Alpharetta.  CRÚ, along with midtown's Princi Italia, are both owned by Dallas, Texas-based Restaurant Works.

C. Ellet’s, the new steakhouse from chef Linton Hopkins and his Resurgens Hospitality Group, is also expected to open next week at The Battery.  Sources say that the restaurant's oyster bar window is open this week from 5pm until 9pm, and that the plan is to have the entire restaurant open by next Wednesday, August 23.

FEED Fried Chicken & Such from chef Marc Taft is also planning to open by the end of the month, possibly as soon as Monday, August 28.  The Battery location of the quick serve fried chicken focused restaurant will be the first of three planned locations for the new concept.  Within the next year or so, two other locations are planned, one at Halcyon in Forsyth and the other at Peachtree Corners Town Center in Peachtree Corners.  In addition to FEED, Taft's growing restaurant empire, Southern Fried Hospitality,  also includes Chicken and the Egg in Marietta, Brine Seafood Shack at Avalon in Alpharetta and plans for a total of three concepts at Halcyon.   FEED, CO-OP Community Table and Bar, and "a market hall burger concept" are all expected to open in the new Forsyth county project next spring/summer.

A new full-service restaurant called Parkside District soft opened this past weekend in Lawrenceville.  ToNeTo Atlanta first wrote about the planned restaurant this past March when they hoped to open in late May.  In April, wet road conditions reportedly led to a driver losing control of their vehicle and crashing into the restaurant.  Delays from this unexpected restoration led to the restaurant's extended delay in opening.  This week, the restaurant is open for lunch without reservations, but does require them for their dinner service.

Jinya Ramen is now open in north Buckhead in the former Uncle Maddio's  Pizza in Powers Ferry Square on Roswell Road.

The Cook's Warehouse plans to open Friday August 18 at the new Peachtree Station shopping center in Chamblee.   ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report that the opening of Whole Foods Market was planned for August 18th, at that time predicting that the Cook's Warehouse would plan to open simultaneously, something that was confirmed today.

Whole Foods Market also revealed today that Genji Izakaya, described as a "Japanese gastropub," will open in their new store in Chamblee.  The original, and currently only other izakaya, is within the hugely popular Whole Foods at Columbus Circle in Manhattan.  The restaurant features ramen, Japanese fried chicken, bubble tea poke bowls and assorted other fare.  Genji sushi, which is carried at many Whole Foods Market locations, including the existing Atlanta area stores, will also be available.

Loyal Q & Brew plans to open tomorrow at 11 am at Parkaire Landing shopping center in East Cobb.  ToNeTo Atlanta reported last month that this location will be the first of two planned, the other opening in Alpharetta/Milton in place of the recently shuttered Five Seasons Brewery.  Loyal Q was conceptualized by and is being opened by former Taco Mac executives including Bob Campbell.

Ambush Board Co. closed its lone brick & mortar store at Barrett Pavilion, off Barrett Parkway near Town Center at Cobb in Kennesaw this past Sunday. The store, which specialized in boards of the skate, wake and snow variety, also sold related merchandise for those sports. Ambush opened in 1997, long before the internet became so dominant in retail sales.  The store will continue to operate its ecommerce website.

Construction is expected to begin soon on a new Fairfield Inn & Suites in Marietta.  The new hotel will be built at 2500 Delk Road on the site of the former Travelers Inn motel.  The new four story Fairfield property will feature 93 rooms.  Future plans call for the construction of a new SpringHill Suites hotel on an adjacent parcel.  Both brands are divisions of Marriott International and both hotels will be operated by Alpesh Patel.  The property had languished for years but has seen renewed interest, especially in light of the recently completed $60 million Atlanta United FC practice facility on nearby Franklin Gateway.

Hudson FC International Sports Pub is now open at Brookhaven Station on Peachtree Road in Brookhaven.  The soccer themed restaurant is part of Metrotainment Cafes and joins fellow concepts Hudson Grille and Sugar Shack in the Brookhaven shopping center.  A new Hudson Grille, the eighth, is planned for Toco Hills shopping center, but is seemingly delayed indefinitely.

A local franchise group with the rights to the MOD Pizza brand in metro Atlanta has reportedly inked their fourth lease.  With one location open in Kennesaw Marketplace in Kennesaw, and a pair of upcoming locations planned for Decatur and Sandy Springs, a fourth MOD is now planned for  Dawsonville  Marketplace in Dawsonville.  The new quick serve pizza chain will reportedly occupy an approximately 3,500 square foot space in the Kroger Marketplace-anchored center.

Henri's Bakery plans to debut their new permanent location at Andrews Square on East Andrew Drive tomorrow.  For the past few months, the popular bakery & cafe has occupied a temporary space in the Andrews Square development after vacating their longtime home at Irby  Avenue and Cains Hill place for a new residential development to be built.  ToNeTo Atlanta first reported in July that a third Henri's is coming, and is expected to open later this fall on Coronet Way on the newly coined " Upper Westside."
