Man on bike tows shopping cart of stolen food www.privateofficer.com

Naples Fla. March 25 2008

Driving around the city for eight hours a day, day after day, police say that you see it all and aren’t shocked by most things that they see.

But on Friday while a Sheriff’s deputy was on routine patrol, he spotted an unusual sight near the intersection of Peter Street and U.S. 41 East. A man on a bike towing a shopping cart filled with groceries that had not been bagged. They were just all tossed in there on top of each other the deputy said in his report.
Collier County deputies say that Christopher Ethier of no certain address told them that he had just bought them from an area Albertson’s and that he had thrown the receipt away and told the clerk don’t worry about bagging anything.

Ethier told the deputy that a Hispanic cashier had rung it all up for him and it cost $50.00 when in fact the groceries were valued at $160.90.
The deputy checked with the store and the only Hispanic clerk on duty didn’t remember that transaction or customer like that and a quick check of the store surveillance tape showed that Ethier had not gone through the check out area that day.

Ethier was charged with shoplifting and grand larceny and transported to the Collier County Jail.
