On Sunday afternoon, police officers were called to Mobile Infirmary West after a man claiming to have explosive devices was taken into custody by a hospital security officer, said Officer Eric Gallichant, a police spokesman.

Hospital officers say that the man claimed to have the devices and was talking ilrational so security officers decided to detain him for further investigation.
Mobile Police questioned the man now known to be Ronald Thompson, 38, of Alphareta Georgia and arrested him, and notified the bomb squad who then searched Thompson's hotel room at the Red Roof Inn on Coca-Cola Road and found what appeared to be improvised explosive devices, which are commonly known as IEDs, authorities said.

Meanwhile, the hotel and the nearby Wal-Mart were evacuated, Gallichant said.
Gallichant declined to say what sort of explosive devices were found in the hotel room.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is investigating, but Thompson has not been charged federally, said Mike Messinger, the resident agent in charge of the Mobile office.
Thompson also faces two counts of making terrorist threats and one count of possession of cocaine, according to the jail log.
As of now, Thompson is being held without bail.
