Four college students charged with rape www.privateofficer.com

Chester County PA. March 22 2008
Four Lincoln University students have been charged with rape roughly 16 months after they allegedly attacked a woman in an all-male dormitory.
Steven “Cali” Jefferson, 20, of Stockton, Calif.; Terrell McDonald, 19, of Coatesville; Antonio Forbes, 21, of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; and Eric Goodwin, 20, of Yeadon, were all charged with rape for a Nov. 19, 2006, incident on Lincoln University’s campus.
Chester County Detectives and Lincoln University police filed the charges in the Oxford district court on Feb. 29. The criminal complaints accuse the four men of raping a female student while she was passed out, drunk, on the second floor of McRary Hall.
The men are suspended from the university, officials said.
The accuser told police that about 1:45 a.m. she, Goodwin and Jefferson were drinking in Jefferson’s dorm room. Then the victim said Goodwin walked her to a nearby empty dorm room because she wanted to go to sleep, records state.
The victim reportedly told police she never gave any of the accused men permission to have sex with her. And while in the empty dorm room she recalled people entering and exiting the room, including Goodwin, Jefferson and another man, records state.
According to court records, Forbes — a resident of McRary Hall — told police that about 3 a.m. he heard commotion in a nearby dorm room, and when he entered the room he saw roughly 10 male stu
dents standing around a bed.
Forbes reportedly told police he saw Jefferson and McDonald involved in sexual activity with the victim, whom he described as motionless, “passed out” and “unconscious.”
The victim suffered injuries including bruising on her arms and lower back, records state. She was treated at Brandywine Hospital after she reported the incident to campus police on the afternoon of Nov. 19.
Goodwin reportedly told police that after drinking together he took the accuser to the empty dorm room where the two engaged in sexual activity. Goodwin allegedly told police that when he left the accuser in the room she was intoxicated and incoherent.
All four men were charged with rape. Jefferson turned himself in Monday, Goodwin turned himself in March 14 and Forbes turned himself in March 10, investigators said. McDonald was arrested at the Chester County Courthouse when he was at the probation office. Investigators said McDonald was unaware of his arrest warrant.
During the investigation, numerous male students submitted DNA samples after signing voluntary consent forms, records state. Jefferson, Goodwin, Forbes and McDonald were among the submitters, police said.
Police said the DNA of all four accused men matched DNA collected either in the dorm room or on the victim’s body.
Campus Police Director Larry Woods said Thursday the arrest of the four men was delayed due to the processing of the DNA samples. Woods said the DNA was sent to a state police lab immediately after the incident, but the results were not returned until Oct. 11, 2007.
“That’s when we started to take the case further,” Woods said. “We did not drop this case. The case remained open.”
After receiving the DNA results, police conducted interviews but were told contradictory stories. Woods said details did not match up and most of those interviewed claimed they were not in the room.
All four men posted bail and their preliminary hearing is slated for April 30 before Magisterial District Judge Harry W. Farmer. In March 2007, McDonald pleaded guilty to charges of fleeing from police and recklessly endangering another person. The charges stemmed from a May 29, 2006, shooting in West Chester in which a man was shot in the leg. Police said McDonald was the driver of a vehicle that fled the scene, but they did not believe he was the shooter.
